Great Gatsby Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Great Gatsby is a book detailing the struggle for a dream that a man will not give up. Gatsby spends his whole life reaching for a position; it’s what motivated him to move to West Egg, make money by any means necessary, and do all that it takes to win Daisy back. It was also written to expose the mindless, indulgent life of the roaring twenties. The selfishness of the lead characters and their disregard for consequence dresses up one of the major themes in the novel, carelessness. The green light, the eyes of T.J. Eckleburg, and East and West Egg are several different symbols Fitzgerald used to enhance these themes. The green light is perhaps the most important symbol used in the novel. At first, it signified Gatsby’s longing for Daisy, but it means much more than just that. Gatsby spent his entire life striving for some better kind of life. His various attempts included success, acceptance, money, and Daisy, but no matter how much he gets, he never feels complete.
