This story takes place in 1958 in California. My grandma was 16 at the time ,and her best friend lived in a house that was three doors down from my grandma�s grandfather�s house. Her grandfather passed away in the early 50�s ,and the house was vacant for many years. My grandma�s grandfather had built his house in an unincorporated area of the village. It was a two to three acre lot with wooded areas. My grandma�s friend Jim, who later became her brother in-law, had spent a lot of time in the vacant house for about two years. While Jim�s parents both worked, Grandma and he watched over his younger brothers. They always hung out with the kids around the block and played in a garage band. My grandma said that ,�The house had always been friendly to her�. She always felt calm when she went upstairs to Jim�s younger brother, Bob�s room. There were a few times that she would come to the house and wait for Jim to get home. The house was empty ,and everybody always kept their doors unlocked.
