James Hevia pioneered the discovery of Anglo-China via studying the literature by Great Britain, a colonizing culture that distorted the true experience and realities of the colonized Chinese people (Brock University). The British Empire�s relation with China (while under the Qing dynasty) was only a small part of its total intention of colonizing Asia. It seemed like Britain was anxious to tap into the Celestial Empire, however they were not as structured in their military involvement as they were in India. Imperialism is viewed as a cultural process that �strove to achieve while not actually realizing domination� (Hevia 2003, 26). Hevia composed the book in three parts; the second Opium War, the English change in its cultural undertaking, and the Boxer Rebellion of the early twentieth century. Their first conflicts with the Qing dynasty were when the British Invasion led to the first and second Opium Wars.
