This essay will discuss and justify the teaching and learning strategies outlined in the Unit of work. Burnett & Myers (2004) note that language and literacy is the key to the way in which people live their lives. There are many different contexts in which language and literacy are used; speaking, reading, writing and listening. Children�s education should introduce and provide them with opportunities in which to use and develop these skills and apply them throughout their school and adult life. It is down to teachers to ensure that their own planning for English reinforces successful teaching and learning. It is also important that the needs of the children help to inform the planning that takes place. Burnett & Myers (2004) suggest there are three factors that should be taken into account for planning to be effective in literacy: Progression, continuity of approach and breadth and balance.
