The point that it is trying to get across is that there are some things in the universe that obviously were designed and in saying that, they must have had a designer. A main point is touched on in the first paragraph of the Argument of Design. Paley�s comparison goes to show that when one stumbles across a rock in the woods, it is not reasonable to suppose that it was designed by some intentional cause.
