Acting in a pro-social way is to behave in a manner that is in some way beneficial to another person, or at least acting constructively in certain situations. Psychologists have asked what makes us act in a pro-social way? Is it due to genetics, our personalities, or one of a number of other factors? One such factor is our culture, what effect does our culture have on the way we behave. There is a lot of research into the effect of culture on pro-social behaviour. Psychologists have found that, broadly speaking, the culture you are brought up in teaches you the norms and social rules of the environment you are in and which situations it is appropriate to offer or ask for help in. (Moghaddam et al., 1993) Miller and Bersoff, 1998, conducted a study to see the differences in liking and helping between two different cultures, Americans� and Indians.
