In Jay Chiat's article "Illusions Are Forever" the author’s opinions regarding the television commercials are split into likes and dislikes. He attempts to spread the message that not all advertisements are sending out false messages, but that they "just" trick the viewers into wanting a certain product. The author starts his article by explaining why he is the right person to do the assignment. Chiat comes with arguments both for and against commercials and advertisements, but does he really express his own opinions and beliefs, or is he just telling us what we want to hear, after all he is an adman.
People have many different viewpoints on commercials and advertisements, but most of them will say that advertisements mislead people, and that most of its content is lies. Chiat is implying, that most content of advertisements are not lies, but that they are in fact true.
