During the adolescent years, a teenager is going through a lot of chaos with developmental changes, intellectual growth, and the stress of becoming an adult. Some researchers have found that adolescent drug use is less likely if parent-adolescent bonds are strong, but after adolescents spend more and more time with their peers, their parental bond diminishes. Likewise, statistics have also shown similarities between alcoholic or drug abusive families and adolescent drug use. There are surprisingly statistics that may not be obvious around you. Four out of five Ohio students in grades 7-12 have tried some drug. 70% of students in grades 7-12 are current drug or alcohol users. The average rate of first use is dropping annually. For boys, it is 11.9 years and for girls it is 12.7 years. 85% of sexually active children below age 15 use drugs.
