Can one explain the need for rehab centers and prisons? Obviously, both exist to contain those whom find themselves guilty of crime. Murder, theft, drug abuse, physical abuse; the list of the inmates� crimes grows on exponentially. In Antigone, Creon makes a very profound statement: �Good lives are made so by discipline.� Some might disagree with Creon, imagining that the disciplinary system does not provide a �good� life, but contrarily leads to an ultimately lesser value of life. However, Creon�s version of the word �discipline� is more applicable to earlier in life, disciplining oneself before one begins to make mistakes. If people followed a philosophy of self-discipline, as Creon intends to point out with his statement, they will ultimately live good lives. Modern peoples view the word �discipline� very narrowly. Today when one is �disciplined� it usually means they have done something wrong and are being corrected by punishment by someone else.
