Horror Movies: Addiction or Extinction? Why are we so addicted to horror movies? Horror movie attendance seems to be driven by yuppies and teens today. Almost every horror movie out there has a young girl running away from something or someone that is trying to kill her. It’s always the same, a group of young beautiful girls and handsome guys getting together for some adventure expecting to have a good time, instead they end up being mutilated one by one until there are just a couple left. The audience knows what will eventually happen, is frightened by what they see, but never the less can’t tear themselves away from their seats. In Stephen Kings article, “Why we crave Horror Movies” he claims there is a beast in all of us and that’s why we go to see scary movies. You see people pay $5.00 to $6.00 to sit 10th row in a theater showing a horror movie, they are daring the nightmares. (King 311-315) People ask why?
