In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries there were many factors that lead to a massive industrial and urban growth in the United States. Advances in communication, energy, transportation and business organization helped the nation become the urbanized, industrial Mecca that it is today, however, there were many other factors that lead to the growth of industry in America. Raw materials became more readily available, the amount of laborers increased, new technologies emerged, and groups of aggressive entrepreneurs staked their claim on new business ideas. These changes, coupled with the federal governments assistance in the growth of businesses and the expanding domestic market for the products of manufacturing, all helped changed the face of the nation. The arrival of new technologies was one of the primary sources of industrial growth.
