Comparing Max Weber to Karl Marx Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Conflict theorists, such as Karl Marx and Max Weber, believe that conflict is constant and reoccurring within every society and appears when any system of co-operation does not work properly. Coercion and power – whether they are directed towards a single person or group of people, are main sources of conflict. Although Marx and Weber equally believe that conflict is present in society, their tenets on the issue differ. They agree that in society social order is a product of power, but Weber believes that power is distributed by more than just financial resources. According to Marx, historical materialism was a way of understanding societies as a whole by analyzing the key factors that play into the development and growth of said societies. Marx's idea of historical materialism stems from his Base Super Structure model. He believed that at the center of this model was the mode of production, which gave rise to three superstructures.
