Classical period (1750-1820) The Classical period in Western music occurred from about 1750 to 1820. It falls between the Baroque and the Romantic periods. The Baroque period, that came before the Classical period, was a time of ornamentation and cluttered sounds. But the Classical period focused on the opposite types of sounds. Music during that period was orderly, uncluttered, well-planned and precise. Vienna, Austria was the center of musical activity during the Classical period. Vienna was such a hot spot for musicians that a style was even named for much of the music composed during the time: �Viennese style.� Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven are the best known composers from this period. Characteristics of the classical style Comparing with the Baroque music Classical music has a lighter, clearer texture and is less complicated.
