When I say a western philosopher who comes to mind? I bet only a handful of you were thinking of the famous and well known St. Thomas Aquinas. He was a well known philosopher, theologian and even a scholastic. He was a doctor also, but many didn�t know this when looking at him. He was one of the thirty three founding fathers, and he is also considered by Catholics to be one of the church's greatest theologians. He was also known for the work he did with the Summa Theologiae. Many things now have the name of St. Thomas Aquinas to honor him. Thomas Aquinas was born 1224 or 1225 in his father�s castle in the kingdom of Naples. The born place is still standing to this day, but isn�t in the best of conditions. He was closely related to Hohenstaufen dynasty of Holy Roman emperors. He also had an uncle that was one of the first abbots of the original Benedictine monastery. The family closely watched thinking that Thomas would be the next abbot. That�s wasn�t uncommon for a young son that was brought up through the southern Italian nobility. He was always a hard worker, but never knew what......
