Ronald Bathes -“The act of reading, rewrites the text” implies texts can remain relevant throughout time. As new readers access these texts, they are re-interpreted in accordance with their values of their contextual mileu. However, the texts original contextual values shape our understanding that textual integrity and universal human truths they embody ensure their continued significance. Thus Yeats poems continue to resonate throughout time because they are re-read, re-interpreted and because they continue to express universal human values. This idea can be seen through “The Wild Swans at Coole” and “Easter 1916”. Yeats poem ‘The Wild Swans at Coole’ implies this resonance through its timelessness. The language of opening of the poem directly reflects the tranquility of the scene it sets out to establish. Everything is still, there is no wind and the water “mirrors” the sky. It is coming towards the end of the year and end of the day, just as Yeats is coming to the “autumn” of his own life.
