Joseph Stalin and the Battle of Stalingrad The book, 1000 Years, 1000 People, by Brent Bowers ranks the top 1000 people who had the greatest influence on the millennium. Joseph Stalin is ranked number 82. Amongst philosophers, artists, inventors, and teachers the title under Stalin simply reads “Monster”. It is hard to argue with that title considering that Stalin refused to attend his own mother’s funeral, rejected an offer to return his son from a prisoner of-war camp, and killed millions of his own people. Through ruthless tactics he did, however, lead his army to defeat the Germans in World War II and become a world power. Between World War I and World War II, Joseph Stalin gained rule of the Soviet Union by virtually murdering every other leader of the Russian Revolution. He kept complete control of the Soviet Union by a merciless reign of horror in which millions of citizens were doomed to death.
