These ideas formed the Declaration of Independence, where �all men are created equal�. However this equality was constructed upon European experienced principles with what Dr. Molefi Asante refers to as, �Eurocentric� ideas, which is a �� consciousness that excludes the historical and cultural perspectives of Africa� (Asante 5) along with a European based perspectives. In a predominantly European based culture, African-Americans struggle to find their place in the multicultural melting pot; America. The Europeans, Orientals, and Hispanics, all have a historical and cultural foundation. African-Americans however, have a different perspective. With no historical or cultural foundation African-Americans differ from the other cultural groups.
