Psycology of Dumb and Dumber Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
“Dumb & Dumber”, the tagline for this 1994 movie reads, “For Harry and Lloyd Everyday is a no-brainer” (Dumb & Dumber). What’s ironic about this tagline is that the movie is not a “no-brainer”, but actually filled with psychological principals hidden within its two main characters, Harry Dunn and Lloyd Christmas.
Lloyd Christmas is a man in his thirties that seems to be trapped somewhere in his early adulthood. His main underlying issue is that he does not have someone to spend the rest of his life with and that makes him sad. According to “Erickson’s Stages of Psychological Development”, he is stuck at the sixth level, Intimacy versus Isolation, (Spiegelman Oct. 26) where he is trying to decide if he is going to live alone or with someone else. It is very clear that the decision he has made is that he wants to have someone. During a conversation with Harry he says, “But most of all, I’m sick and tired of having nobody” (Dumb & Dumber).
