Props and Settings of Shakespeare Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Props and setting are an important part of Shakespeare’s theatre. Props are the objects actors and actresses use during the course of the play. The setting is the background and scenery of the colorful play. Props help the audience get into the play. They are often objects the audience knows and uses themselves. When someone uses a sword the audience is intrigued and eager to see what happened next. The setting also helps the viewers feel like they are there, on a hot summer day or in an eerie cold night. The props in the play attract the viewer’s attention such as the swords when the actors fight. “Throw your mistempered weapons to the ground, And hear the sentence of your moved prince.” You can tell that they were fighting without even watching. There are various different instruments used in “Romeo and Juliet”. “Servingmen come forth with napkins.” The napkins are a prop but not a significant one. “Music plays and they dance.” This is an instrument that’s in stage direction, without this there would be no music to entrance the audience in the play.
