Both of Shakespeare’s characters, Henry V and Hamlet, were chosen to uphold the venerable positions appointed by God. Each potentate has different responsibilities, but must endure similar hardships just as any leader would. Along with the prestigious honor as king came moral values and principles as guides. Each path and principles a ruler chooses will be different, but the destination determines the overall perspective of the king.
Both Henry and Hamlet were faced with the devastating realities of the deaths of their patriarchs. They were both mere fledglings and almost innate as to rule a country by themselves. Commoners portray the lives of kings as feastings and ruling in luxury, attired with robes of gold and pearl. Both Henry and Hamlet carry the burdens of others.
