…In a Galaxy Far, Far Away John Milton wrote Paradise Lost a long, long time ago. In doing so, he wrote his life’s masterpiece, a reinterpreted version of a story considered to be one of the most important ever related; a story that was, even in the 1660’s, very, very old. He fit this story by hook or by crook into the format of Epic poem, no small feat for a blind English scholar on the shitlist of a monarch. I wonder then, if he would be pleased to know that here in the early part of the twenty first century, his artistic and colorful vision of the tale of Adam and Eve and their dramatic “fall” and the loss of the Garden of Eden has changed the way this author thinks about the roots of Christianity. It has redefined the way in which I consider the teachings that the nuns forced upon me in 1977, for it is clear now that some of what they taught was based firmly in Paradise Lost and its fancier imagery, its more coherent story line, and not the Bible. It has re-opened my eyes to the way in which what was popular culture in antiquity can be so incredibly influential. Paradise ......
