The Etruscan civilization is one of the ancient civilizations that still have scholars puzzled. What historians do know for sure is that the Etruscans helped lay the foundations for Romans and their empire. They are said to have settled in an area now known as Tuscany, Italy and later spread to nearby regions. Their origin and dates of their settlement are widely disputed. A majority of scholars speculate that the Etruscans were driven out of their native land Lydia, in Asia Minor, due to widespread famine. Greeks differ by saying that before the Etruscans settled in Italy, they were a branch of Pelasgians, natives to the Aegean region, which sought new terrain. Because some script remains, scholars know for certain that their times of settlement date somewhere around 1,000 BCE and that functioning cities were flourishing in 700 BCE.
Few realize that the Etruscans made many contributions to language, art, architecture, religion, engineering, and agriculture, long before the Romans. Their main contribution that lived on long after their dissolve into the Roman culture......
