Drinking is said to lead to bad decisions, a familiar statement. However, embarrassing actions made while under the influence of alcohol seem harmless in comparison to making the decision to sit behind a steering wheel after several drinks. Driving while intoxicated has been a problem in the United States since the automobile was first introduced, but it did not become a serious issue until the 1980�s. Driving under the influence is said to be a problem within the individual and is considered to be the nation�s most frequently committed crime. In order to prevent drunk driving, stricter laws must be implemented as well as more harsh punishments. When an individual drinks, the alcohol is absorbed into their bloodstream. The amount of alcohol in a person�s body is measured by the weight of the alcohol in a given volume of blood. This is known as the BAC, or the blood alcohol concentration.
