Last week I interviewed a man who shared with me his life experience of being an African American male from a working class. Jack is forty years old. He is an auto-mechanic, but recently unemployed. He is divorced and does not have any children. All his life he lived in small city in a state of Virginia. All his life he dreamed to be a pilot and have a family with three kids. This man had a lot to share and his life experience shocked me in deed. After Jack introduced himself to me, I opened my interview with a question: �What do you think about classism? Do you think classism is an issue in the U.S.?� Jack said that classism is one of the biggest issues in the U.S. And that people don�t bother to notice this problem and do something about it. Then, he made an interesting statement:� � class affects what we identify as and what we have available to us as choices.� Upon graduation from his high school, Jack was awarded a Scholarship to attend any college, private or public, in the state of Virginia.
