On august 23rd, during the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, one of the deadliest hurricanes in the history of the United States of America hit the north-central coast, mainly causing the most loss of lives in New Orleans. There have been many theories and essays written by anthropologists and sociologists about this �natural disaster� that cause controversy on the cause and effects of this devastating event. The article that I chose to analyze is �There�s No Such Thing as a Natural Disaster� by Neil Smith. I chose this article because he has very logical interpretations of Hurricane Katrina and very valid arguments that I can concur with. I found this article to be exceptionally well written because it brought up multiple issues that stimulated intelligent explanations for this tragedy.
