In the past thirty years, the line between the type of education received by the special education student and the regular education student has blurred significantly. Today, teachers in the regular education classroom face students with a variety of learning styles and needs. Each individual child’s special needs range from the easily remediated to the more challenging student. High functioning autistic students, mainstreamed into the regular education classroom, serve as an example of that type of student. The teachers who work daily with these children must develop specialized teaching strategies to meet differentiated learning styles of the autistic child. “Autism is a very broad and complex behavior disorder.
