The Native Americans were a very well rounded culture. They lived off what they were given. They knew what they were here to do and they did it. Their accomplishments prove that although without industrial development a culture can thrive and flourish. They looked at survival as a necessity, rather than a challenge. The Native Americans were resourceful, ingenious, and beheld high moral standards. They used nature for food. They looked to the land to give them fulfillment as well as nourishment. Most Native Americans resided near a water source to make their everyday lives easier. Rivers, particularly, provided them with multiple resources. For example, people in the plateau area used the Columbia River extensively for salmon fishing. The fish provided a major part of their diet. Some of the Native Americans that lived on the coasts, near the ocean, even hunted whales (Aveni 74). Some, at times, hunted alligators. They also could manipulate nature to work towards their advantage. They could control the grazing direction of herds of buffalo (Aveni 19). They could tell time by looking......
