“Nothings Changed” by Tatumkhulu Afrika, is about the racial segregation in Capetown, Africa. “Two Scavengers in a Truck, Two beautiful People in a Mercedes” by Laurence Ferlinghetti, is about how American society is divided by wealth. “Nothings Changed” is Tatumkhulu Afrika’s experience when he goes back to district 6 after the apartheid law had been abolished, but the conditions and the opportunities of the black people had not improved. There was still a division in the society. In the first stanza the poet shows his anger by repeating single syllabled words and using harsh sounding consonants. “purple-flowering amiable weeds” this quote sounds friendlier because it has more syllables in it and it is familiar to him, and it contrasts with the beginning of the stanza. the poets use of onomatopoeia lets the reader experience the physical feelings of the poet.
