Just before the first modern war the civil war there became a new and improved technique in photography. And with this new and improved technique some of the important moments and parts about the war were recorded. Like what type of guns were used , the different uniforms that were whore by the different sides during the war. During the beginning of the war all type of guns were in short supply so many soldiers were equipped with old outdated guns. The only good part about this was that each side was just as well equipped as the other so it was a pretty even playing field. The basic weapon for an infantry soldier was a single shot muzzle-loading percussion musket. While rifles were preferred for there long range and accuracy the principle shoulder weapon for the mounted services was a short barreled carbine. They were probably effective out to about 200 yards.
