The theme of love has been explored throughout history within many different poems. The language, mood, style and structure can differ from poem to poem as they have all been written by different poets and in different times. The two poems �The Seduction� and �Cousin Kate� may have been written in different eras but they both have very similar storylines and themes. �The Seduction� written by Eileen McAuley, is a love story about a young girl being seduced by a boy whilst under the influence of alcohol. She then finds that she is pregnant and falls into a depression. However, �Cousin Kate� written by Christina Rosetti, may have been written over a hundred years earlier but it still has some similar themes. This love story is based on a woman being seduced by a �Great Lord� but he just uses her as a mistress as he marries her �Cousin Kate�. The maiden then proceeds to have his child. However, unlike in �The Seduction� where the poem concludes in a pessimistic way, �Cousin Kate� ends in an optimistic manor. The two poems differ as �The Seduction� was written in the late 20th Century......
