Introduction- On Thursday evening, July 5, 2007 at 16:35 hours I, Detective Karen Whitney, was called to respond to a drive-by shooting that took place at a local gas station, Ross Minit Mart. Dispatch has reported that witnesses seen a silver, 1997 Ford Contour approach the gas station, going north, on main street at high speeds. Two young males leaned out the passenger side of the vehicle as the weapons were fired. A teen-aged male, who was a known gang member, was killed during the incident and no others reported injured. Responding to the Call- I was the first to respond to the scene of the crime, in which I noticed there were several persons gathered inform to the gas station so I referred to my prior knowledge of communication skills before interviewing witnesses. I secured the crime scene and spoke with witnesses: Tony Niper, a child; Skip Lewis, a hearing-impaired, elderly man; and three gang members: David Bennett, John Turner, and Mike Fisher.
