There are many events that have greatly influenced America in the early 1500s, but the most famous and influential of all was the Protestant Reformation. It brought about the most drastic religious change in not only American society, but also the world. There were many people that contributed to this large change. We owe a lot of what the world is today to these people. Although the Protestant Reformation is said to have taken place in the early 1500�s, there were much earlier efforts at reform. John Wycliff stirred up controversy in the church as early as 1370.1 Wycliff�s movement made the Bible widely available to all the people not just church officials.1 John Huss, another early reformer, stirred up religious officials in Bohemia by translating the Bible into Czech and preaching much of Wycliff�s ideas.1 He was arrested the Church Counsil and burned at the stake in 1415. His death sparked a revolt in Bohemia. The figure that had the greatest influence in the start of the reformation in the 1500�s was Martin Luther.
