Genetically modified organisms are a group of organisms that have been genetically engineered, to create a new variety of them with the desired genes. This is done by transferring genes from one organism to the genome of another unrelated organism. Examples of organisms that are genetically modified are plants, animals and bacteria. The most common form of a genetically modified organism is GM food. In recent years GM food has been a big part of a public debate of whether genetic engineering is harmful or helpful. The main concern of GM food is the possible health risk to humans. (actionbioscience.org). A major health risk that could be possible is the risk of allergies in the GM food. Food Allergy affects about 5% of children and 2% of adults in the U.S. and is a big threat on public health. In humans, an allergic reaction occurs when an immune response is stimulated when a normally harmless protein enters the body.
