Written Versus Spoken Language: The Persuasive Edge The ability to change people’s minds about how they see something is a powerful and highly coveted skill. It is an art form which has been mastered by the best salespeople in the world. Persuasion through written language is vastly different from persuasion through oral language. There are the obvious differences of the writer having a more clear and concise argument which is laid out in a mannerly fashion, and the speaker having the ability to change words and statements while reading the audiences responses. Both methods may be used effectively; however, oral language is more effective in persuading someone. Ok, its 2 a.m. in the morning, and I am awestricken at the sight of fat dripping off of meat. No, I’m not dreaming, I am entranced by the king of infomercials himself, Ron Popeil and his Showtime Rotisserie. So do I really want this product, probably not.
