Ernest Hemingway � �The Old Man and the Sea� Ernest Miller Hemingway was an American novelist, short-story writer, and journalist who wrote in the twentieth century. He was part of the 1920s expatriate community in Paris known as "the Lost Generation", as described in his memoir �A Moveable Feast�. He received the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for �The Old Man and the Sea�, and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. �The Old Man and the Sea� is a novel, written in Cuba in 1951 and published in 1952. It was the last major work of fiction to be produced by Hemingway and published in his lifetime. The Old Man and the Sea is a heroic tale of man�s strength pitted against forces he cannot control. It is a tale about an old Cuban fisherman and his three-day battle with a giant Marlin. Through the use of three prominent themes; friendship, bravery, and Christianity; the �Old Man and the Sea� strives to teach important life lessons to the reader.
