HIV/AIDS: A Changing Face In Florida. The state of Florida continues to be consistently ranked high in the nation in the number of HIV/AIDS reported cases. HIV/AIDS has changed dramatically from a gay, white male disease to a crisis within the African-American community. To slow/stop the spread of this deadly disease will require a new comprehensive approach to the prevention, testing, and treatment within the Black Community. The response to this epidemic of HIV/AIDS in Florida has been less than enthusiastic by the State. The HIV/AIDS budget has been cut and some services have been reduced. Patients have lost access to some medications, creating serious situations. Some medical personnel have protested the budget cuts and thousands of Florida HIV/AIDS patients have written to the governor, requesting that he reverse the cuts.
