Developmental psychology gives us great insight into how cognitive abilities change or increase over time. This may be from the moment of birth, with recognising the mother (Klaus and Kenell 1976), or through childhood where a successful completion of a certain part of there life can lead them onto another (Piaget as cited in Bjorklund), right through to old- age where various types of in-depth accounts can be given to see how a person has matured or not. This is done by different types of methodology. Methodology is a set or system of methods, principles, and rules for regulating a given discipline, as in the arts or sciences (American Psychological Association APA). Developmental research sets out to look at how a human develops and changes over time and the different levels of understanding they have. Psychologists adopt a number of methods to try to measure the different ways of how these changes occur.
