Border crossing shows how difficult it is to escape the consequences of our actions. Do you agree? In today’s society, we have seen examples in the media where ‘ordinary looking’ people are harassed and condemned due to their burden of being a criminal in the past. Without any regard that such people are sent to prison to be ‘reconciled,’ and have served their time, society makes it very difficult to escape the consequences of one’s actions. Pat Barker’s novel “Border Crossing” is a story which details the difficulty of leading a normal life in society after being convicted of murder. Danny Miller, who was sentenced to prison in an adult court at the age of 10 was failed by the justice system and the institutions and welfare agencies in place to rehabilitate him. In Pat Barker’s novel “Border Crossing” the criminal, Danny Miller who at the age of 10 murdered an elderly woman, is punished so heinously that it becomes almost impossible to be redeemed of the murder which he irresponsibly declared Danny fit to be tried in an adult court, consequently found guilty and sentenced......
