Antonio Vivaldi Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Antonio Lucio Vivaldi was born in Venice on March 4th, 1678. His father, Giovanni Battista, was a barber before becoming a professional violinist, taught him to play the violin and then went all over Venice playing the violin together. Vivaldi had a medical problem that he called the tightening of the chest which was probably asthma. This problem didn’t prevent him from learning to play the violin, or composing. When he was 15 he started studying to become a priest. At age of 25, Vivaldi became ordained as a priest, and earned the nickname Il Prete Rosso, "The Red Priest", because of his red hair. Not long after he was ordained, in 1704, he was given a discharge from celebrating mass because of his medical problem. In 1706 he withdrew from priesthood entirely.
In 1703, Vivaldi became master of violin at an orphanage called the Devout Hospital of Mercy in Venice. There were four of these hospitals in Venice.
