This observational study “Analysis of Coyote Predation on Deer and Elk during winter in
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming” by Eric M. Gese who works in the Department of Wildlife Ecology at University of Wisconsin and Scott Grothe who works in the Biology Department at Montana State University, observes and collects data nine predation attempts by coyotes on deer to show how their coyote’s observations provide insight into the roles assumed by members of coyote packs when cooperatively hunting large prey and the ecological conditions under which coyotes can successfully kill large prey (Gese and Grothe 36). In the text a lot of ecological factors are displayed on whether or not a successful kill is performed. Different factors such as age of coyotes, amount of snow cover, health of prey and coyotes are just a few of the many factors that decide whether or not coyotes can submit successful kills.
