The traditional customs and conducts of the Aboriginal people were displayed in the first set of images in the photo-story. After European invasion the indigenous people of Australia were subject to racism and were stripped of their natural and spiritual identity. As a consequence they have often turned to substance abuse as a way of escaping their problems. I will be discussing the representations and the discourses that are being explored in two poems that I have chosen, these are: �Ambrose� by Bobbi Sykes and �Bora Ring� by Judith Wright. I will also discuss the use of poetic language and techniques which position the reader and create particular effects. The two poems both present the representation of Indigenous experience in Australia and present certain similarities and differences. Judith Wright�s poem �Bora Ring� demonstrates a didactic nature, whereas �Ambrose� is biographical in nature and is more personalised, which creates a different mood. �Bora Ring� is more structured than �Ambrose� which, has many short sharp sentences and small stanzas.
