United Nations Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Overall purpose of this paper is to provide insight on the United Nations tradition and performance and their search for a new role. The United Nations is an international organization that consists of 191 member states. “The United Nations is not a world government and it does not make laws. It does, however, provide the means to help resolve international conflicts and formulate policies on matters affecting all of us” (Department of Public Information, 2005). This paper will explain the history that the United Nations have compiled in its 61 years of existence. The positive effects it has had our society as a whole as well as the current problems and the new role that the United Nations has for the future. The History of the United Nations began on January 1, 1942 when Franklin D. Roosevelt used the name “United Nation” during World War Two referring to the 26 nations that allied their governments together to fight against the Axis Power (Department of Public Information, 2005).
