Most persons lose out on many opportunities due to the fact that they try to avoid a particular situation, object or activity. Many of us might say that those persons may have a fear towards that situation, object or activity and others may state that it is a phobia. However, having a fear is normal for human behaviour whereas having a phobia is a psychological disorder. Fear can basically define as having a normal response to genuine danger. On the other hand, with phobias, the fear is either irrational or excessive and persistent. At many times persons may consider their phobias harmless but their fear is still unreasonable and uncontrollable. If exposed to the phobia persons will become overwhelmed with extreme feelings of anxiety, fear, and even panic. This experience is so unpleasant that they go great lengths to avoid the object or situation they fear.
