There is a huge debate going on in the United States and it is about whether we should build more nuclear fired power plants or coal fired power plants. There are many sides to this argument including issues as big as the having another Chernobyl or Three Mile Island incident and some as minuscule as how much it costs to supervise the plants. All factors, no matter how small or large, have an effect on which process we will use in the future. That�s why there are over 600 operating coal fired plants (http://www.earth-policy.org) and only 66 operating nuclear fired plants with 104 licensed nuclear reactors (http://www.solcomhouse.com/nuclear.htm), in the United States. Chernobyl and Three Mile Island gave nuclear fired plants a bad name, but in actuality nuclear fired plants have a good safety record. There have been many more deaths at coal fired plants that don�t involve huge clouds of radioactive gases so you don�t hear about them as often. There are other factors as well when deciding whether to go with nuclear or coal power. Costs are a huge factor; everything costs money......
