Maytag transitioned into the home appliance business in 1907 with the introduction of its first washing machine called the �Pastime�. As an alternative to the washboard The Pastime washer had a wooden tub with a hand crank that turned an dolly inside with wooden pegs, which in turn, pulled clothes through the water and against the corrugated tub sides www.maytagclub.com/page-2.htm). In 1909, Maytag manufactured the first power washer called the �Hired Girl�(www.maytagclub.com/page-2.htm). This machine received its power from tractors and other farm engines.
