The girls and boys of North America go through puberty, shaving, and drivers’ permits and then licenses, these are the changes each adolescent must participate and is the declaration of the age of accountability. The age of accountability in America is also considered their rite of passage. The rite of passage for North America children is quite calming and gentle. Whether in North America or across the seas the rite of passage for all girls can be painful, this rite of passage, a natural rite of passage is their menstrual cycle. However, on the other side of the world, in Africa, in Southern Kenya and Northern Tanzania there is a tribe by the name of Maasai/Masai (spelling would depend on which area they are from) the practice is quite a different type of rite of passage ceremonies. The ceremonies seem cruel to many of us, but to the African culture these are signs of honor.
