Overfishing is causing low populations of large breeds of fish The reduction of the breeding stock levels to such an extent that they will no longer support a sufficient quantity of fish for sport or commercial harvest and catching too much fish for the system to support leads to an overall degradation to the system. The issue that was discussed on the Declining Fish Stock VLR was the declining large breed fish population such as Swordfish (Declining Fish Stock VLR). Other populations that have been affected by overfishing also includes bait fish. Bait fish are caught to later be used to catch larger fish by commercial fishers.
