During the 18th century, two major revolutions occurred that still have an impact on society today. One, the American Revolution, was a successful revolt against the British authority leading the creation of the United States of America. The second, the French Revolution, failed to achieve equality and democracy for the French majority; however, it did cause some major changes for Europe. The American Revolution (1775 �1783) was not necessarily successful in military endeavors. The Continental Army consisted of untrained, poorly skilled farmers and city dwellers from the 13 colonies facing the most advanced military force in the world along with German mercenaries. So exactly how did the new nation survive? The American Revolution had several small factors and two huge factors that helped them gain independence. First of the smaller advantages the Americans had was a strong support of the American minority with a common goal: independence.
