The theory of culture is not a new one; however, its prevalence has increased as America�s population has continued to diversify and American�s groups identified on the basis of culture. A person�s culture may be defined by his or her race, ethnicity, gender, class, age, mental/physical ability, sexual orientation, religion, and/or country of origin. These categorizations may or may not coincide with the person�s self-identification. Generally, negative perceptions occur when a person is a member of the minority of one or more of these groups. When a person faces stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination on the basis of membership in one or more of these groups, and is unable to advocate for himself or herself due to such membership, it becomes the responsibility of helping pr......
