“Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona where we lay our scene. From ancient grudge, break to new mutiny, where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, a pair of star-crossed lovers take their lives.” Romeo and Juliet are the children of two wealthy households in Verona, the Montague’s and the Capulet’s. The two families have been feuding since ancient times. At the beginning of the play, Paris declared that he wanted to marry Juliet, and Romeo was unhappily in love with Rosaline. At a feast given by Juliet's father, Romeo and Juliet meet and fall in love, not knowing that they are members of rival families. After the feast, Romeo goes back to the Capulets' house and sees Juliet on her balcony. They declare their love, agree to marry, and arrange to meet the following day at Friar Lawrence's cell. The plans go ahead. Unknown to Romeo, Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, has seen Romeo at the feast and vowed to take revenge at this insult to his family pride.
